Susan Marie Carlo
My first camera was a pink and purple rectangular box. I photographed my family, pets, and stuffed animals. I took it to school once, everyone wanted me to take their picture, but I had only 24 exposures to spare. I was not a photographer; I did not see photography as an art form. Many years, an archeology degree, a family life of my own, and a lifetime later, I decided to move away from the camera’s auto settings and began photographing with intent. These days, I use my camera as a way of expressing my thoughts, ideas, and sentiments. The places I have lived have colored my perspective and enriched me with new ideas. My experiences have allowed me to find beauty in the most ordinary circumstances. I enjoy experimenting with different angles, camera techniques, and post-processing. Lately, I have found myself creating images that dance between conceptual and surreal.
These days, you can find me living under the big blue sky of Victoria, Texas.
